James Lee Schuler

James Lee Schuler, age 73, of Osawatomie, Kansas, died Sunday, October 3, 2010 at his home.
Jim was born September 22, 1937 in Storm Lake, Iowa. He was the first of four children born to
Lee James Schuler and Minnie (Johnsen) Schuler. He graduated from Albert City High School,
Albert City, Iowa in 1955, and then enlisted in the Navy. Jim served from June, 1955 thru
March, 1966. After being discharged, he attended Texas Tech University.
He was married in 1956 to Bernice Kulow in Georgia. They lived in Key West, Florida, Iowa,
and Kansas and had two children. Their marriage ended in divorce in 1964.
Jim lived in Lubbock, Texas from 1974 thru 1978. He worked on the Alaska Pipeline from
beginning to end, then again in 1981 and 1983, and again in 1991 thru 1992 as a truck driver. He
also worked as an over the road truck driver until retirement.
Jim was legally married to Sharon Kay Chadwick in Olathe, Kansas on December 24, 1980.
They had one daughter. They made their home in Anchorage, Alaska and Olathe, Kansas until
moving to Osawatomie, Kansas in October of 1989.
He was a member of the Lutheran Church, the John Hinkle Post #204 of Osawatomie, and the
Teamsters Local #959 of Anchorage, Alaska.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Barbara Gardner and one grandson, Dakota
DeRemus.
He is survived by his wife Sharon of the home; one son James Lee Schuler, Jr. of Eagle River,
Alaska; two daughters Roxanne Huber of Paris, Texas and Wendy Schuler McCarley of
Osawatomie, Kansas; three step-sons Wesley Banks DeRemus of Osawatomie, Martin Banks
DeRemus of Paris, Texas, and Frank Scott DeRemus of Olathe, Kansas; one “adopted” daughter
Stephanie Tate; one brother Fred Schuler of Lubbock, Texas; one sister Sharon Sue Schuler of
Souix Falls, South Dakota; thirteen grandchildren; five “adopted” grandchildren; twelve greatgrandchildren;
three “adopted” great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Private family services were held at Pleasanton, Kansas Cemetery on October 8, 2010
