William A. “Bill” Hermreck, age 80, of Osawatomie, Kansas, died September 8, 2010 at the Life
Care Center in Osawatomie.
Bill was born September 10, 1929 at Scipio, Kansas. He was the son of Nicholas Christopher
and Odelia Caroline (Bowman) Hermreck. He graduated from Wellsville High School with the
Class of 1948.
He was united in marriage to Norma Lee Tyler on April 19, 1951 at Garnett, Kansas. They
made their home in Osawatomie and became the parents of three children.
He served his country with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He entered the
military on April 30, 1951 at Kansas City, Missouri. He was honorably discharged January 29,
1953 at Camp Crowder, Missouri. After his discharge from active duty, he transferred to the
reserves for five years.
Bill worked for Fluor at their Paola Plant which later became Taylor Forge. He began there in
1953 and retired in January of 1995. He worked in their Quality Control Department as
manager.
Bill was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Osawatomie. He was also a member of
the Osawatomie VFW where he had served as Post Quartermaster from 1978-1988, the
Osawatomie American Legion where he was finance officer, the Osawatomie Elks and had also
been very active in Boy Scouts. Bill was one of the people who helped coordinate many events
including community Bingo nights at the American Legion in Osawatomie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers James and Bob, and a sister Sharon
Brady. He is survived by his wife Norma of the home; his son Michael of Osawatomie; two
daughters Susan Troxel of St. Cloud, Florida and Lu Ann Hermreck of Olathe; his sister Ruth
Zwiener of Garnett, Kansas; 2 grandchildren Jennifer Clough and Matthew Troxel; 2 great
grandchildren Lily Peoples and Christopher Clough; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at the First
Presbyterian Church in Osawatomie. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, September
13, 2010 at the Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home. He will lie in state after 1 p.m. Monday. Burial
will be in the Osawatomie Cemetery with military honors. Pallbearers will be Dave Bueker,
John Bueker, Ken Butler, John David Cole, Galen Critchfield, and DJ King. Memorials are to the
First Presbyterian Church.
