Michael O’Dell “Mackin” McMechan, age 55 of Lane, Kansas died May 15, 2011 at the Cancer Center of America in Tulsa, Oklahoma after an extended illness with pancreatic cancer.
Mike was born July 1, 1955 in Olathe Kansas. He was one of a set of twins born to William Jennings and Bonnie Alice (Ross) McMechan. The family lived in Bucyrus, Parker then lane in 1965.
Attended Parker grade school, central heights where he graduated in the class of 1973.
Mike was married June 28, 1980 to Mary Ann Crouch. They made their home in Lane and became the parent of two daughters.
He worked at Rantoul Energy, Taylor Forge and other places before finding his passion for operating heavy equipment. He worked for Meadows Construction of Tonganoxie for more that 25 years and most recently for Heartland Midwest Construction of Olathe.
He loved mud trucks, hot rods, lawn mowers, anything that could be ‘Mackin-ized” and spending time with family. His other passion in life was listening and playing music with his friends.
He is preceded in death by his father William Jennings McMechan and stepfather Robert Lee McMechan who were brothers.
Besides Mary Ann he is survived by two daughters Michelle Minden and her husband Jason of Parker, Ks; Melissa McMechan of Osawatomie; his mother Bonnie McMechan and step father Raymond Poage both of Fontana; his twin sister Linda Crouch of Lane; Three granddaughters Mackayla, Mackenzie and Mackenna Minden of Parker.
Friends and family will gather at 2 p.m. Friday in downtown Lane and will proceed to the Lane Cemetery for graveside services at 3 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, McMechan Legacy Memorial Fund at First Option Bank has been established for his granddaughters.
