JAMES L. “JIM” HUNSPERGER
James LeRoy “Jim” Hunsperger, age 77, of Osawatomie, Kansas died Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at the Golden Living Center in Spring Hill, Kansas.
Jim was born January 28, 1934 in Osawatomie, Kansas. He was the third of five children of Orville Biehm and Ethel Lenora (Hastings) Hunsperger. He attended the Osawatomie Schools and graduated from Osawatomie High School in the class of 1952.
Jim worked for the Osawatomie State Hospital for a short time where he met Ruby Marie Stocksen. They were married August 11, 1955 in Paola, Kansas. They made their home in Osawatomie and became the parents of three children. In August of 1956 Jim joined the Marines and attained the rank of Corporal before being discharged in August 1958. Jim then worked at Delco Battery in Olathe from 1962 to 1994.
Jim loved his Harley Motorcycle and he liked to travel. They made many trips and camped a lot. He liked to hunt, fish, cut wood, telling stories, collecting and building model trains, restoring old tractors, enjoyed helping neighbors, mowing, pushing snow etc…
Jim loved to show pictures and tell stories about his cat “Tom”. He always finished each story about his cat with “ain’t he a dandy”.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Owen, Gene and Bob Hunsperger.
Jim is survived by his wife Ruby of the home; one daughter, Mary Beth; two sons, Bret and his wife Shirley, Cody and his wife Krysti; one grandson Garret; one granddaughter Morgan and fiancé Tanner Stevenson, all of Osawatomie. Two step grandsons Bo Ferguson and wife Jennifer, Chris Ferguson and wife Nycole; one great granddaughter Kaity Ferguson all of Ottawa; one sister, Orvella Badders of Osawatomie; numerous nieces and nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.
Instate after 1pm Friday, June 17th, with visitation 6-8pm Friday evening at the Funeral Home.Service will be 10am Saturday, June 18th at the Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Osawatomie Cemetery with Military Honors.
