ROBERT CHARLES “BOB” PENNOCK

Robert “Bob” Pennock, age 73, of Paola, Kansas died September 10, 2011 at the Life Care Center of Osawatomie, Osawatomie, Ks.

Bob was born March 28, 1938 in Kansas City, Kansas. He was the first of three children born to Roy Charles and Anna Eve (Zemaites) Pennock. He graduated from the Wyandotte High School in the class of 1956.

In January of 1961 Bob joined the Army Reserves until being discharged in 1967.

Bob was united in marriage to Betty Buchanan in Kansas City, Ks. on May 6, 1961. They made their home in Kansas City and became the parents of two children. In 1971 they moved to Osawatomie, Ks. Their marriage ended in divorce in 1983. Bob then married Connie Keast and also ended in divorce. He then married Linda Vanhorn on March 5, 1998 and made their home in rural Lane, Kansas, southwest of Osawatomie. Linda died in 2009.

Bob worked for Safeway Grocery Stores for 28 years and in 1989 he opened his own store, Bobs Family Grocery. He owned and operated the store in Osawatomie for 10 years before retiring in 1999.

Besides sacking groceries, Bob loved to bowl, hunt and fish. When he wasn’t out hunting and fishing he could tell stories for hours of the numerous trips he took with his two sons and many friends. He was also an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan. He looked forward to spending many Sundays at Arrowhead Stadium with his two sons.

Bob never met a stranger and will be missed by many.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Linda; sister, Mary Pennock.

He is survived by two sons, Robert Darin Pennock of Wichita, Ks., Bret Alan and Angie Pennock of Osawatomie, Ks.; one brother Harry Pennock of Bonner Springs, Ks.; Grandchildren Tara Pennock of Wichita, Ks. and Blake and Berlynn Pennock of Osawatomie, Ks; great Grandchild, Darrian Hammond of Wichita, Ks.; Five step Grandchildren, Faith Eaks, Nicholas Godfrey, Christopher Godfrey, Jillian Gaines and Abigail Gaines; one step great Grandson, Hunter Eaks.
