Wilma Jean Weippert, age 97of Osawatomie, died Oct.3, 2011 at Life Care Center, Osawatomie, Kansas.

Wilma was born July 13, 1914 in Sedalia, Mo. She was the fourth of eight children, born to James Garfield and Melsena Florence Hamlett Butner.

She graduated from the Smith Cotton High School in Sedalia, Mo. in the class of 1934.

In the early 40’s she moved to Kansas City, Mo. and worked at the Jones Dept. Store for a short time as a cashier on the floor. She was employed by the Klines Dept. Store in the payroll dept. until 1953.

Wilma was married on April 20, 1952 in Garnett, Ks. to Lee Jabobus Weippert. They made their home in Osawatomie.

Wilma is a member of the First United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. The Philathea Sunday school class which she had served 12 years as president. The O’Swan Club and the Rebekkah Lodge #336 all of Osawatomie. Wilma loved to fly and for many years traveled to California and Texas to visit her brothers and sisters. She had worked as a volunteer at Heritage Manor since 1968. For more than forty years Wilma visited nursing homes on Sundays to assist in church services with her friend Rosie Bowker. She loved to sing and eat ice cream.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers and four sisters.
Survived by, one nephew and one niece. She will be missed by her loved ones.

Graveside services will be 10:00 A.M. Thursday Oct.6,2011 Osawatomie Cemetery, Visitation Wed.Oct.5th from 5-7PM
