Agnes Marie Higgins McCourt Beach

Agnes Marie Higgins McCourt Beach, age 98 of Osawatomie, Ks. died Sunday Oct.2, 2011 at Life Care Center in Osawatomie Ks. She was born to James and Minnie Marsch Higgins on June 6, 1913 in Easton, Ks.

Marie graduated from Easton High School in 1931.

She was united in marriage to David R. McCourt at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Easton on June 6, 1934. They had three sons and made their home in Atchison, Ks. until 1952, when they moved their family to Osawatomie, Ks.

She was employed as a Psychiatric Aide at the Osawatomie State Hospital from 1952 until her retirement in 1978.

Marie was a member of the St. Philip Neri Catholic Church and the Altar Society.

She was an excellent cook and loved to sew. She made quilts for each of the three sons and nine grandchildren. As long as she was healthy she prepared items for the church’s fall bazaar and worked tirelessly preparing homemade noodles for the chicken and noodle dinner.

Marie loved watching her sons play baseball and she continued to be a Royal’s fan and Cub’s fan, watching games on TV.


Marie attended her high school reunion in Easton until 2005 and was the oldest living alum.

Her husband, David died Sept.12, 1962 and she married Charles Beach at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church on Jan. 18, 1971. He preceded her in death on Aug.12, 1973. Also preceding her in death are one son, Thomas Edward McCourt, four brothers; Louis James Higgins; Leo Francis Higgins; Lawrence Edwin Higgins; and Charles Edward Higgins and one half sister Catherine Adamson.

She is survived by her sons James Francis McCourt and wife Laurel of Garnett, Ks; Larry McCourt and wife Frances of Lane, Ks; one daughter-in-law,Shirley McCourt of Osawatomie, Ks;one sister, Helen Terry of McLouth, Ks. Nine grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Easton High School Alumni or Masses at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church.
