Hanford A. Workman (Age 81)

Hanford Autrey Workman, age 81 of Parker, Kansas, went to be with the Lord Thursday May 17, 2012 in Iola, Kansas due to pneumonia.

Hanford (H.A.) was born February 9, 1931 in Pittsburg County (McAlester, Ok). He was the fourth child of eight children born to Dave Benjamin Workman and Almie Annie Jane (House) Workman.

Hanford left home in McAlester, Oklahoma at age 12 and began working as a farmer. At age 21, he and Jimmie Ruth Downing eloped on April 22, 1952 in Clovis, New Mexico.

After marriage, Hanford worked as a ranch hand in Arizona. They soon moved back to Lubbock, Texas where Hanford worked as an Assistant Laundry Superintendent for National Linen. During this time Jimmie Ruth gave birth to their only child, William Richard, on July 23, 1955.

Shortly thereafter National Linen moved them to Fort Worth, Texas. In 1965 the Workman family moved to Kansas City, Kansas and Hanford worked for six years at a fiberglass company (Guston Bacon). In 1970 the family settled in Parker, Kansas and began farming again.
They raised hogs and cattle, and farmed there for the next forty-two years.

In April 1981, Hanford was saved on a Thursday night revival meeting, and the family joined the First Baptist Church of Parker, Kansas. In May 1987 they moved their membership to the Faith Baptist Church of Osawatomie, Kansas.
Since salvation, Hanford faithfully served as a member, soul-winner, and deacon.

He was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings: Lloyd Edward, Ernest Lee, Roby LaWayne, Clifford Howard, and a baby girl.

Hanford is survived by his wife, Jimmie Ruth of the home; his only child, William Richard and wife Julie Ann of Parker, Kansas; two sisters, Mildred Smith Hurt of Kansas City, Kansas and Wanda Harshaw of Arlington, Texas; four grandchildren, Dennis, James, Justin Wayne and wife Virginia Workman of Minco, Oklahoma, and Matthew Keith and wife Courtney Helene Workman of Pocasset, Oklahoma; four great-grandchildren, Jared Brett, Madisan Kelsey, Madeline Helene, and Carson Hanford Workman with a fifth great-grandchild on the way.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 21, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Parker, Kansas with burial in the Parker Cemetery. Visitation is from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, May 20, 2012 at the Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home-203 Main Osawatomie, Kansas 66064.
