Betty Louise Troutman

Betty Louise Troutman, age 84 of Osawatomie, Kansas, died Sunday, June 10, 2012 at her home after living for several years with Alzheimer's disease.

Born July 27, 1927 in Osawatomie, KS, Betty was the fourth of Thomas Robert and Emma (Rauhut) Barker's five children.

Betty attended Osawatomie schools, graduating from Osawatomie High School in 1944.

After graduation, seventeen-year-old Betty worked at Sunflower Ordinance Plant in DeSoto, KS for one week before management discovered she was too young to work at the plant. Betty then began working at the Little Café in Osawatomie, KS.

In 1953, Betty started working as a Psychiatric Aide at the Osawatomie State Hospital. She later worked in the State Hospital's Clothing Room and Pharmacy. She retired in 1976.

On April 28, 1947, Betty married Jack Donald Troutman in Kansas City, KS. The happy couple made their home in Osawatomie, where they raised their three children. Jack died September 2, 2005.

Betty was very active with and supportive of her grandchildren and their many extra-curricular activities. She also helped with various activities at the First Baptist Church where she was a member and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother (Charles Barker), sisters (Ruth Blackwell and Frances Troxel), and son-in-law (Donald Eugene Ewbank).

Betty is survived by her: son, Tom Troutman, and his spouse, Linda, of Spring Hill, KS; daughter, Janice Sue “Janie” Huber, and her spouse, JT, of Paola, KS; daughter, Donna Lee Ewbank, of Osawatomie, KS; brother, Robert Barker, of Osawatomie, KS; ten grandchildren (Jim and Denise, JoyLynn and Chris, Jeff and Sandy, Jon and Angie, Jace and Stacy, Jason and Kim, Jay, Chad, Sean and Mary, and Chauncey); twenty-six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30pm on Wednesday June 13, 2012 at the Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home. The visitation will be from 6 to 8pm on Tuesday, June 12 at the funeral home.
