Wave Bishop age 74, of Osawatomie, KS died Monday September 17, 2012 in Garnett, KS at the apartment that he and his wife Lillian moved into just one week prior.
Ralph Waverly Bishop “Wave” as he was known was born November 6, 1937 to Jake Thomas Bishop and Erma Olive Giffin in Blue Mound, KS. He was the oldest of six children.
Wave worked in Encampment, Wyoming during the 70’s and early 80’s as a crane operator for the Grand Encampment Mining District. Then moving to Olathe, KS and working for A&L Underground Gas Company, GDC also in Olathe, and then the City of Herman, Herman, MO. as a gas company supervisor.
On May 3, 1986 in LaCygne, KS he married Lillian Eileen (Vestal). They made their home in rural LaCygne later moving to Osawatomie.
Wave was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA).
He enjoyed being outdoors, wood working, fishing and wine making. He loved watching his grandchildren participate in 4H and sporting events.
In his younger years he liked to rodeo. Wave always said his most memorable rodeo performance was at the Linn County Rodeo, when he won two events Saddle Bronc and Bullriding and his sister was crowned rodeo queen.
Wave was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Danny Bishop , a step daughter Debbie Gillis, sister-in-law Kathy Bayless (Burns) and first wife Helen Marie Henry (Burns).
He is survived by his wife Lillian of the home, his son Ralph Wayne Burns of Chickasha, OK, his daughter Jodie Beets of Osawatomie, one step-son Pete Wood of McLouth, KS and one step-daughter Janet Baker of Pryor, OK, one sister, Donna Stites of Mound City, KS and three brothers, Mike Bishop of Parker, KS, Roy Bishop of Olathe, KS and Lester Bishop of LaHarpe, KS, eleven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
