Francis James Shaughnessy age98, of Osawatomie, KS formerly of rural Parker, KS died Thursday September 20, 2012 at the Life Care Center of Osawatomie.
Francis was born January 27, 1914 in Grand Junction, Iowa. He was the youngest of three children born to David Peter and Catherine Esther (Higgins) Shaughnessy.
He moved to Kansas in 1921 and attended grade school in Franklin County at Cole Creek School. In 1926 they moved to rural Miami County and attended South Grade School and St. Patrick Junior High School both in Paola. He graduated from Paola High School in the class of 1931.
Later he moved to the south end of Miami County (rural Parker) with his parents. His life’s work was farming and trucking.
On March 23, 1999 he moved to the Osawatomie Court Apartments where he lived until 2010 when he moved to Life Care Center of Osawatomie.
Francis was a member of St. Philips Neri Church in Osawatomie and a former member of the Knights of Columbus.
He had a wonderful sense of humor and was quite a jokester. He was “green” before “green” was the in thing to do. Always had another use for everything, re-using anything in some way. Francis had a most intelligent mind and was a pleasure to visit with.
Francis was preceded in death by his parents, and twin infant sisters.
He is survived by distant cousins including Dale Higgins of Grand Junction, Iowa, dear friend Sharon Dickerson of Olathe, KS. and many other friends.
