Sherman Cole Jr. age 89, of Osawatomie, KS died Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at the Life Care Center of Osawatomie.

Sherman was born July 29, 1923 the oldest of three children to Sherman Reynolds Cole Sr. and Sadie Opal (Longmire) Cole in Paola, KS.

He attended school in Paola, KS

On December 16, 1941 Sherman married Betty Jean Shively. They became the parents of two sons. They made their home in Paola until the mid 1950’s when they moved to Osawatomie.

Sherman served in the U.S. Army until after WWII. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He was an airplane mechanic in the Navy and was stationed at the Olathe Naval Air Station and Glenview Naval Air Station in Glenview, Illinois. At that time he retired after a twenty year career with the U.S. Navy.

After his retirement from the military Sherman went to work for Bill Butler at the Osawatomie Ford Motor Company as an auto mechanic. Later he was employed by Mike Gabbert at Tech-Air as a welder and mechanic and retired from there in the 1990’s.

He was a member of the VFW of Osawatomie.

Sherman enjoyed hunting, fishing, motorcycles and he liked trap shooting.

He was preceded in death by his wife Betty Jean November 2, 1997 and his son James K. Cole September 20, 1999.

He is survived by his son Sherman W. “Wes” Cole and wife Sherie of Osawatomie, one brother Jefferson Irvan ”Perky” Cole of Osawatomie, one sister Roberta Young and husband Neal of Fontana, KS, six grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
