Howard Glenn Miller age 86, of Lane, Kansas died Sunday December 2, 2012 at his home in Lane.
He was born January 5, 1926 to Kelsey Lee Miller and Elsie Melinda (Metzger) Miller in Ozwakia, Kansas. He was the fourth child of fourteen children.
Glenn attended country schools Union Valley, and Crescent Hill, and later attending Osawatomie High School.
After school he traveled around the country for awhile and then serving in the U.S. Navy as a seaman during WWII and in Korea in which he served on the USS Missouri. After serving almost eight years in the U. S. Navy on October 11, 1951 he received an honorable discharge in Brooklyn, NY.
On June 8, 1952 in Osawatomie, Kansas he married Lois V. Glendenning. They became the parents of
four children. They were married for nearly 42 years. Lois died May 28, 1993.
His work took them to most of the states west of the Mississippi.
Glenn worked for the railroad, he also worked as a carpenter building bridges. In 1975 they moved to Aransas Pass, Texas where they owned and operated a motel, later they bought a shrimp boat and lived in Rockport, Texas. They moved back to Osawatomie in 1987 and then to Lane in 1988. He then became a heavy equipment operator.
Glenn was a member of the Engineer Union Local #101, Carpenters Union Local #714 and the VFW formerly of Osawatomie, when it
disbanded he then moved his membership to the VFW of Garnett, Kansas.
Glenn was preceded in death by his wife, and two sons: Howard Glenn Miller who died at birth,
Kenneth Ray Miller August 16, 1999. Two sisters: Velma Lore and Betty Lyons and four brothers: Bill, Bob, Chuck, and Harry Miller.
He is survived by one son, Roy Lee Miller and wife Mary of Lane, KS one daughter, Teresa Ann Miller of Orlando, FL and one daughter in law Vanessa Lovett of Liverpool, TX. Two brothers: Larry Lee Miller of Spring hill, KS and John Edward Miller of Dallas, Oregon. Five sisters: Donna M. Burkhart of Osawatomie, Ruth Ann Pringle of Woodway, TX, Ina May Franklin of Denison, TX, Nina Fay Denny of Walters, OK and June McCoy of Paola, KS. Five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
