Wilma Bernadine Ripley age 88, of Osawatomie, KS died Saturday, January 19, 2013 at the Olathe Medical Center in Olathe, KS.
Wilma was born on September 6, 1924 in Paola, KS. She was the second child of six born to Earl Joseph and Carrie Edith (Moody) Brady.
She grew up in Paola and attended Paola schools, graduating from Paola High School in the class of 1942.
On January 12, 1947 she married Bert Herman Ripley in Osawatomie, KS. She and Bert made their home in Osawatomie. Bert died December 23, 2003.
In 1956 Wilma went to work at the Osawatomie State Hospital where she continued to work for 28 years as a psychiatric aide retiring in 1984 as a patient representative.
She was a life long member of the St. James Brown Chapel AME Church in Paola, and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Osawatomie. Wilma served on the board of the Senior Citizen’s Center of Osawatomie, KS and she and Bert volunteered for many years with the Salvation Army in Osawatomie.
Wilma liked to do crossword puzzles and crochet. She loved to watch Judge Judy on television because Wilma liked Judge Judy’s no nonsense approach to life’s matters.
Also, Wilma loved to bake and make candy. She and her late husband enjoyed making candy and fudge and shipped it to family and friends all over the country.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bert and four brothers: Earl, James, Linville, and Donald Brady.
She is survived by her sister Doretha Lee Smith of Paola, KS, two sister in-laws: Wanda Shelby and Evelyn Ripley both of Oakland, Ca. many nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
