REMEMBERING CAROLEE GOETZ
Iva Carolee Goetz was born in Ottawa, Kansas in 1918, daughter of Henry and Freda Ferguson. Carolee graduated from Ottawa High School in 1937 and, then, attended Emporia State Teacher’s College. After teaching several years she received her B. S. degree in elementary education from Pittsburg State University and continued to teach in Kansas for another 27 years.
Carolee married Harry Goetz in 1943 and she and her husband owned and operated a Dari King Drive In at Osawatomie for ten years. They also owned the Kansas City Star paper route and were distributors for ten years plus continuing to farm. During this time they adopted and raised two children, Alan and Carolyn.
In 1979, Carolee and Harry retired in Sun City, AZ. They became members of The National Air Stream Trailer Club and traveled with the group throughout the United States with their Airstream Trailer in tow. They were also active members of the Willowbrook Methodist Church where she and Harry made many friends and always helped others in need.
Carolee was preceded in death by her husband, Harry in 1998 and by her three sisters, Helen Lovitt, Dorothy Harrison, Marjorie Baxter and a brother Russell Ferguson. Carolee passed away on Thursday, June 13, 2013 in Sun City, AZ. Survivors are her son Alan Goetz and daughter, Carolyn Giles and 7 grandchildren. Nephews include David Baxter, Shelton Baxter, Armand Harrison, Myril Harrison and Donald Lovitt.
