A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at 2pm SaturdayJuly 13 at Town Village of Leawood, 4400 W 115th St in Leawood, KS.

Evelyn Mae Young age 92, of Leawood , KS formerly of Paola, Osawatomie, Garnett and Chanute, KS died Sunday, July 7, 2013 at her home.

Evelyn was born March 28, 1921 in Paola, KS the youngest of three children of Herbert Melvin Stockwell and Ellen Grace (Diediker) Stockwell.

Evelyn attended school in Paola, KS and graduated from Paola High School in the class of 1939.

In 1942 Evelyn went to Long Beach, California where she worked supporting the WWII aircraft construction effort.

On November 19, 1945, she married Harold Lloyd Young in Paola, KS. They moved to Lawrence, KS and then in 1946 they moved to Osawatomie and they became the parents of three children. Evelyn worked for the American State Bank of Osawatomie. They moved to Garnett in 1960 where Evelyn worked for the Garnett State Savings Bank. The family then moved to Chanute in 1968. Evelyn then went to work for the First National Bank of Chanute; she also worked for the Humbolt National Bank. Then in September of 1995 they moved back to Paola and then to Leawood in 2003.

Evelyn was a member of the Valley View United Methodist Church of Overland Park, KS, a former member of the United Methodist Women of Paola, Pleasant Hour Club in Chanute, VFW Auxiliary of Chanute, and a volunteer for the Miami County Medical Center, Paola, KS.

She loved family and socializing with her many friends. She also enjoyed playing cards, doing jigsaw and crossword puzzles, knitting and she loved to travel.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, one infant daughter Sue Ellen Young, her sister Winifred Clark and her brother Melvin “Gravy” Stockwell.

She is survived by her husband Harold of the home, her son Herbert Lee (wife Kay Lynne) Young of Aurora, Colo., daughter Kay Elaine Everitt of Overland Park, KS. Three grandchildren: Heath Landon Young, Kimberly Lynne Young and Megan Noelle (husband Samuel Duane) Clevenger and many other relatives and friends.
