Mildred Allene Wilcox, age 81, of Paola, Kansas died Friday, August 2, 2013 at the Olathe Medical Center in Olathe, Kansas.
Mildred was born October 25, 1931 in Pleasant Gap, Missouri (near Butler). She was the third of five children of Elmer Floyd and Jewell (Wingo) Blankenship.
She attended Country School in Pleasant Gap, Missouri. She worked in the food service field and in production assembly.
Mildred was married in Butler, Missouri on December 31, 1949 to Walton Edward “Ed” Wilcox. They made their home in Butler, where she worked in a lens plant, making lenses for eye glasses.
They moved to Mt. Vernon, Missouri in 1960 and then to Paola, Kansas in 1964. They became the parents of two children.
Mildred was employed at King Radio and Russell’s Department Store both in Paola.
She was a wonderful homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother; she loved caring for her grandchildren. She enjoyed going on fishing trips in Minnesota, which always included stopping at one of the casinos along the way. Mildred liked watching the birds and the squirrels and doing cross-stitch.
She was a member of the First Christian Church in Paola.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents and one brother Willard Blankenship.
She is survived by her husband Ed of the home, her son Arlen Edward (Suzy) Wilcox of Paola, KS, and her daughter Bonita “Bonnie” S. (Allen) McKoon of Osawatomie, KS. Three sisters: Lorene Boyd and Darlene Stover both of Butler, MO and Geraldine Carney of Topeka, KS. Five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
