Russell Lynn “Rusty” Conrad age 54, of Osawatomie, Kansas died Sunday, August 18, 2013 at the Olathe Medical Center in Olathe, Kansas.

Rusty was born May 21, 1959 in Lawrence, Kansas the second of four children to Clayton LaVerne “Sam” and Alveta Marie (Holloman) Conrad.

Rusty grew up in Osawatomie and attended the Osawatomie School System. While in high school he was a star athlete in football and high hurdles in track. In the fall of 1976 he and his team mates went to state in Abilene, Kansas.

In 1977 Rusty joined the United States Marine Corp. After basic training he was stationed in North Carolina and served for two years.

After his discharge from the Marine Corp, Rusty moved back to Osawatomie. Shortly after returning home he was involved in an auto – pedestrian accident. While out jogging he was struck by a car which left him permanently disabled.

He worked at King Radio for a short time after his accident. Later moving to Wichita, Kansas. Rusty lived in Wichita most of his adult life. He moved back to Osawatomie in 2010 to be closer to his family.

Rusty enjoyed reading the bible and he could quote you scripture and verse. He even attended a Christian College for about a year. He loved to spend time with his nieces and nephews and the neighbors cat “Tiger Paw”. Joking, teasing and making the children laugh was one of his enjoyments. He was loved and had a big heart. He had a great sense of humor and was always making everyone laugh, he was a very funny guy.
He will be greatly missed by all.

Rusty was preceded in death by his parents and a step brother Kevin McDowell on March 11, 2012.

He is survived by his step-mother, Janet Conrad of Osawatomie, KS, brother Randy (Shawna) Conrad of Osawatomie, KS, his two sisters: Regina (Aaron) Gross of Parker, KS and Renee (Mike) Ross of rural Paola, KS. Four step-sisters: Kristi (Jerry) Sams of Overland Park, KS, Kimberly (Kevin) Dial of Paola, KS, Kerry (Fred) Ford of Overland Park, KS and Karla (Ken) Debrick of rural Paola, KS. And eight nieces and nephews: Nathaniel Gross, Amanda (Derek) Grogan, Amilee Gross, Brandon and Bryan Switzer, Halley, Macey and Sutter Conrad.
