Norma Jean Meier age 78 of Garnett, Kansas died Tuesday, October 2, 2013 at the Life Care Center of Osawatomie.

Norma was born May 8, 1935 in Lebannon, Missouri the oldest of two children to Roy Albert and Iola Vera (Crozier) Curran

She grew up in Lebannon, Missouri, being raised by her Aunt Hazel & Uncle Ivory Hawk, and went to school there graduating in the class of 1953.

On September 3, 1953 she married John Herman Meier in Skamania County, Washington. The couple made their home in Vernonia, Oregon and became the parents of three children. John died in 1988 they were married for 35 years.

In 1979 they moved from Oregon to Centerville, Kansas, later moving to Blue Mound, Kansas. Norma moved to Urbana, Missouri in 1994 and then to Garnett, Kansas in 2011.

Norma was a cook and while living in Oregon worked for the school system in Vernonia. In the late 1980’s she went to work as a cook and housekeeper for Father Fitzgerald in Mound City, Kansas until she moved in 1994.

Norma was not only a cook and a homemaker but she was an artist and a painter. She also enjoyed writing, some of her poems were published in the local newspapers and she wrote a few books, just for herself and her family. She had a favorite charity she donated to on a regular basis, St. Bonaventure Indian Mission and School in Thoreau, New Mexico.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John, her brother Roy Wayne Curran, one half-brother Billy Lee Dibben, and one half-sister Peggy Joann “Judy” Kennedy at the young age of 20.

She is survived by her three children Johnny Lee Meier of Humansville, MO, Judy Lyn Robinson of Forrest Grove, Oregon and Roxanne Marie Glover of Blue Mound, KS. One half-sister Sharon Kay (Dibben) Grant of Garnett, KS, eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.

Cremation with a private family service at a later date is planned.
