Marjorie Elizabeth Cowman age 91, of Paola, Kansas died Saturday, November 9, 2013 at Miami County Medical Center in Paola.

Marjorie was born November 11, 1921 in Wessington Springs, South Dakota the only child of Rudolph (Rudy) and Olive Elizabeth (Coleman) Hainy.

She grew up in Wessington Springs and graduated from Wessington High School.

Marjorie lived in South Dakota and Iowa until 1955 when she moved with her then husband and her two sons to Russell, Kansas. A daughter was born to the couple while living in Russell.


Volunteering was a big part of her life while living in Russell, she was active in volunteering in her church the (former) Redeemer Lutheran Church, with Meals on Wheels and the Senior Companion Program.

In 1994 Marjorie moved to Osawatomie, Kansas to be closer to her family. She then moved to Paola, Kansas in 2005.

After moving to Osawatomie she continued her love of volunteering and became involved in the Foster Grandparents Program until 2011, where she assisted students in the Adult Education Program.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents Rudolph and Olive Hainy.

She is survived by her two sons: Steve (Cheri) Cowman of Paola, KS; Gary (Kasper Heath) Cowman of Hutchinson, KS and one daughter Neanne (Wille) Martin of Shawnee, KS.

Her grandchildren include: Kurtis (Kelley) Cowman of Olathe, KS, Michael (Leslie) Augustine of Kansas City, MO, Tory (Chris) Honey of Castle Rock, CO, Jason (Jenna) Kuder of Olathe, KS, Justin (Jared Summers) Kuder of Kansas City, MO, Aaron (Julie) Martin of Overland Park, KS and Alan (Cara) Martin of Olathe, KS.
Her great grandchildren: Maddie Augustine, Caleb Honey, Gracie Cowman, Jack Cowman, Riley Martin, Cade Martin, Lauren Martin and Ryder Martin.


No formal services will be held.
Marjorie chose cremation as her final disposition. The family will have a private committal of ashes in the Russell City Cemetery, Russell, Kansas at a later date.
