Rose Marie Barden age 84, of Emporia, Kansas formerly of Osawatomie, Kansas died Monday, November 25, 2013 at the Holiday Resort Nursing Home in Emporia.

Rose Marie was born September 1, 1929 on a farm near Tipton, Kansas. She was the third child of four born to Aloysius Edward and Dorothy Mary (Fischer) Simeon.

When Rose Marie was five years old her mother died, and she and her siblings were separated. She went to live with her grandmother, Grace Fischer, who ran a restaurant in Tipton. This is where Rose Marie learned cooking, canning, and cleaning, which she always loved.

When Rose Marie was twelve her grandmother died, and she went to live in Chicago with her Aunt.

On June 1, 1948 Rose Marie and Fred J. Barden were married. Fred worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad. They made their home in Osawatomie and had three sons and one daughter. Fred died May 10, 2006.

Rose Marie enjoyed many hobbies. She loved refinishing antique furniture, china painting, playing cards (especially bridge), watching movies, reading books, cooking and entertaining for family and friends.

She was proud of Osawatomie, and she worked to make it a great community. Though she never had a full-time career, she was always busy helping her family, friends, church and community.

Rose Marie was a member of the First Baptist Church of Osawatomie, member of the MERA Class, the Osawatomie Pride Committee, and was on the Election Board in Osawatomie.

For health reasons, Rose Marie and Fred sold their home in Osawatomie in 2005 and moved to the Holiday Resort Apartments in Emporia. Three years after her husband’s death Rose Marie became a resident at the Holiday Resort Nursing home.

Rose Marie’s brothers, Jim and Bob Simeon and sister Wanda Stephens preceded her in death.

She is survived by her four children; Fred Wayne Barden of Independence, MO, Dennis Barden of Osawatomie, KS, Ronald Barden of Emporia, KS and Dana (Barden) Buchanan of Lenexa, KS; nine Grandchildren; and thirteen great grandchildren.
