Vera Mae Day age 86, of Osawatomie, Kansas died peacefully Saturday, January 4, 2014 surrounded by family at the Olathe Medical Center in Olathe, Kansas.

Vera Mae was born November 23, 1927 in Smith County, Kansas the third child of four born to Lawrence John and Elda Marie (Noble) Craig.

Vera Mae grew up in Smith County until she was eight years old. Her family then moved to the Miami County area. Her family moved to rural Osawatomie (Mound Township) in 1941 where her daughter, Karen and family, still resides. She attended Parker Rural High School in Parker, Kansas graduating with the class of 1945.

On November 25, 1945 Vera Mae married Corval Wayne Day at her parents’ house in rural Osawatomie. They made their home in Miami County and moved in to their present home on Crescent Hill Road in 1950. They became the parents of three children. Wayne died on September 14, 1999. Vera and Wayne were married for over fifty-three years.

Vera Mae loved children. She had an in home day care for many friends and neighbors. Those she has watched still call her Grandma Vera. She was a loving mother, grandma, and great grandma. Family was everything to Vera Mae it was what she loved most. She loved doing word search puzzles, the game show network, and playing games with anyone who had time to stop by the house. Due to her failing eyesight, she relied on family and her wonderful church friends to help with appointments and outings. Vera Mae was a happy, joyful women who only saw the good in everyone and never had a harsh word to say about anyone.

Vera Mae was a lifelong member of the Beagle United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne, her son Corval L. Day in 1996 a great granddaughter, Elizabeth Day in 2006,and her siblings, Marie Johnston, Glen Craig and Donald Craig.

Vera Mae is survived by her two daughters: Elda Mae (Raymond) Burch of Pleasanton, Kansas and Karen (Melvin) Kilbourn of Osawatomie, Kansas.and a daughter in law, Brenda Day of LaCygne. Five grandchildren: Corval Max Day, Craig (Stephany) Kilbourn, Mara (Shannon) Inglis), Caleb Kilbourn, and Courtney Kilbourn. Five great grandchildren: Justin Roche, Rowan Day, Ryah Inglis, Abri Kilbourn and Bryli Kilbourn. As well as many other family, friends and her church family.
