Vera Marie Weaver age 99, of Osawatomie, Kansas died Friday, February 7, 2014 at the Life Care Center of Osawatomie.

Vera was born on July 19, 1914 in coal Camp 50, in Girard, Kansas. She was the second child of six born to Rene’ and Juanita (Rauhut) Franq.

She grew up in the Girard area and attended school there until she was in her teens. The family then moved to Osawatomie where she attended the Osawatomie school system.

Vera’s family had many connections to Osawatomie, her grandfather Charles Rauhut was the Chief of Police for several years.

In 1934 she married James E. Glenn on May 19 in Salina, Kansas. The couple made their home in Osawatomie and they became the parents of one son. Their marriage later ended in divorce.

Vera worked as a midwife in Osawatomie and the surrounding areas, making a home for her and her young son. In 1943 she married Delbert M. “Dusty” Weaver. They made their home in Osawatomie and began their life as a family. Dusty died December 6, 1999. The couple were married for fifty-six years.

Vera cared for her grandchildren, as well as many of her nieces and nephews throughout her life, family meant everything to her.

In later years Vera had a loving companion in her cat “Boots”. When Vera went to live at the Life Care Center “Boots” was one of her main concerns as to where and how he would be taken care of. “Boots” found a home with a member of the family, and now at the age of seventeen he still resides with that family.
