Evelyn Delores Warren was born June 16, 1929 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She died at the age of 84 on Friday, April 4, 2014 at Vintage Park of Osawatomie, in Osawatomie, Kansas. She was the second child of six born to Clarence Ova and Josephine Susan (Christian) Carlson.
Evelyn grew up on a farm in the Colorado Springs area. Her family then moved to Missouri and Evelyn was home schooled from her freshman year through her senior year. However, she did attend Bear Creek High School in Bear Creek, Missouri and graduated from Bear Creek High School with the class of 1948.
She later attended South West Baptist College in Bolivar, Missouri. Evelyn taught school for a few years in the Stockton, Missouri area. She was a teacher in a one-room schoolhouse and taught seven grades in that one room.
On April 8, 1950 she married Arbie Dale Warren in Bolivar, Missouri, and they honeymooned in Camdenton, Missouri. The couple moved to Kansas City, Missouri, and became the parents of two sons, Marion and Larry. Arbie was a barber and he had his own barber shop in Kansas City, Kansas for more than twenty-seven years. When Arbie died on September 17, 2013, the couple had been married for over sixty-three years.
Evelyn was a full time homemaker and mother. However, in 1954 she attended the Dorothy Lee Modeling School, after which she modeled in the Kansas City area for many years.
The Warren family loved to travel around the country and on their many trips they enjoyed fishing, camping, and water skiing. After their sons were grown, Arbie took up motorcycle riding—a new way to enjoy traveling! Evelyn and Arbie traveled from the East to the West and everywhere in-between. When Evelyn was injured in an auto accident and could not ride for long distances on the motorcycle, she merely followed him in the car. They let nothing stop their travels.
Evelyn also enjoyed shopping and was a very thrifty shopper, hitting all the sales and bargains the stores had to offer. One of her favorite places—TJ Max.
After having lived in Kansas City and Basehor, Kansas for many years, Evelyn and Arbie moved to Vintage Park of Osawatomie in 2011, where they both resided until Arbie became ill, at which point he went to live at the Life Care Center of Osawatomie until his death. Evelyn remained at Vintage Park.
Evelyn was a member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses Congregation in Basehor but became a member of the Paola, Kansas Congregation after moving to Miami County.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two brothers: Delmont Carlson, Dean Carlson, and one sister, Rosetta Leonard. She is survived by her two sons: Larry Warren and his wife, Joy, of Louisburg, Kansas, and Marion Warren and his wife, Laura, of Hopewell Junction, New York; two sisters: Melva (Orville) Bishop of Hemet, CA and Charlotte (Arnold) Nielson of Cheney, Kansas; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
