Shirley Ann Hunt age 79, of rural Osawatomie, Kansas died Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at the Ottawa Retirement Village in Ottawa, Kansas.

Shirley was born August 12, 1934, in Williamsburg, Kansas the eldest child of five to Herbert Lee and Violet Fern (Thompson) Johnson. She grew up in the Williamsburg area and attended school there, graduating in the class of 1952.

Shirley went to work for the County extension office at the courthouse in Ottawa after school. Ottawa is also where she met her husband to be Hollis William Hunt. They met at the roller skating rink. The couple married on December 5, 1954 at the Methodist Church in Williamsburg. They made their home in Ottawa and then later moved to Gardner, Kansas where Hollis was stationed in the United States Navy. In 1958 they moved to Osawatomie, Kansas and became the parents of one son and three daughters.

Shirley was a stay at home wife and mother for about twelve years, raising her children and caring for her home and husband. In 1966 she went to work for the Osawatomie School District and held the position of accounts payable clerk. Shirley retired from that position in 1994 after twenty-eight years of employment, she was a very dedicated employee and loved her job.

The family took vacations every summer, they loved to travel and to camp. Their first camping trip was in a camper on a pick-up truck, traveling to Colorado and Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming.  They even traveled to New York and then to New Hampshire where they crossed the George Washington Bridge in a camper.  In later years Shirley and Hollis traveled to Arizona every winter from 1994 until 2007, where they had a winter home and enjoyed the sun there until spring.

Hollis played the guitar and a friend played the piano, so they went to all the nursing homes in the area and played music and sang for the residents. Shirley would attend these concerts and during the intermission she would read short stories and funnies to all that attended. Shirley enjoyed doing this and had a large stack of stories she had read throughout the years. Shirley also loved to take pictures. She organized them in several photo albums capturing countless memories of family and friends.

Shirley attended church at the Victory Baptist Church in Osawatomie where she was a member for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother Arthur Johnson.

Shirley is survived by her husband Hollis of the home, her son Dan and Erika Hunt of Louisburg, Kansas, and three daughters: Kay and David Oshel of Ottawa, Kansas, Sheri and Bruce Johnson of Nixa, Missouri and Teri and Mark Davis of Manhattan, Kansas. Three sisters: Mary Cearfoss of Ottawa, Kansas, Barbara Wilson of Osawatomie, Kansas and Lila Reekie of Williamsburg, Kansas. Seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
