Dorothy Mae White age 87, of Osawatomie, Kansas formerly of Kansas City, Kansas died Friday, May 23, 2014 at the Life Care Center of Osawatomie.

Dorothy was born December 20, 1926 in Kansas City, Kansas the youngest child of two born to James Thurman and Alberta Beatrice “Birdie” (Ridenour) Phillips. As a child growing up she attended the Methodist Church with her family. She grew up in the Kansas City area and attended school at Quindaro Grade School, N W Jr High School and Wyandotte High School.

On February 17, 1945 she married Charles Franklin White in Kansas City, Missouri. They made their home in Kansas City, Kansas and became the parents of two children Sandra Kay and Gary Wayne. Dorothy and Charles were married for forty-one years when Charles died in 1986.

Dorothy was a full time homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed being at home cooking and taking care of her husband and her children. But her real pleasure was when she became a grandmother. She loved being with her grandchildren and having them come stay at her home. She was a fun filled “grandma” playing games with them on the “Atari”, watching cartoons, and having Popsicle eating contests to see who could eat the most.

She liked to spend time playing bingo, and card games like canasta, watching old westerns on TV and listening to country music. Dorothy loved animals and would feed all the stray dogs in the neighborhood. She was a woman who loved simple things in life and enjoyed family and friends.

Dorothy remained in Kansas City after the death of her husband, her home of many years was side by side with the home of her elderly mother. After the death of her mother she then moved to Osawatomie in 1998 to be closer to her daughter. Carr Apartments is where she called home until she moved to Life Care Center due to her health in 2013.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Charles, and her son Gary in February 1986 at the age of thirty-nine, and her brother James Edward Phillips.

She is survived by her daughter Sandra (White) Rogers and husband Gerry of rural Osawatomie, three grandchildren: Scott Rogers, Pam Daniels, Todd Rogers, seven great-grandchildren along with many other family and friends.
