~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Eldridge Wesley Walker age 93, formerly of Parker, Kansas died Saturday, June 21, 2014 at his home in Independence, Kansas.
Eldridge was the only child born to George R. and Pauline L. (Davis) Walker. He was born January 26, 1921 in Parker, Kansas. Eldridge grew up in Parker on the family farm and graduated from Parker High School in the class of 1938.
Shortly after he finished high school Eldridge enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served his country during WWII as a 1st Lieutenant Pilot for seven years and then in the Air Force reserve.
While in the military he met and married his wife Helen Violet McDonald on January 3, 1946 in Raton, New Mexico.
The couple returned to Parker and made their home there. They became the parents of two children, William and Julie.
Eldridge had 340 acres on his farm in Parker and farmed 180 of them. Not only did he farm but he was a rural mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for over thirty-five years.
In 1992 after forty-six years of marriage his wife Helen died on November 17th.
A few years later on August 6, 1994 Eldridge married Marie Troutman and the couple made their home in Paola, Kansas.
Eldridge enjoyed hunting and fishing and working on the farm. He loved all his animals and his constant companion “Queenie” his silver Schnauzer. They went everywhere together, the loss of his beloved dog saddened him for the rest of his life. A few years later he moved to Independence to be near his daughter and while living there he “adopted” a crippled cat from her and they soon became good buddies. While enjoying his animals and the love of his farm nothing could compare to the joy he got from his grandchildren. Eldridge loved spending time with all his grandchildren and great grandchildren it was his most favorite activity.
He was a former member of the First United Methodist Church of Parker, a member of the VFW of Osawatomie and a member of the Rural Mail Carriers Association.
Eldridge was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Helen, and his son William Walker in 2012.
He is survived by his wife Marie Troutman Walker of Paola, Kansas, his daughter Julie (Ron) Weber of Independence, Kansas, two step children, two grandchildren, four step grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, six step great- grandchildren and many other family and friends.
