~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Robert Michael “Lump” Lombard age 65, of Osawatomie, Kansas died Saturday, June 28, 2014 at the Miami County Medical Center in Paola, Kansas.
Lump as he was known to almost everyone was born in Paola, Kansas on April 9, 1949. He was the second of four children and the only boy born to Robert Dean and Mary Elizabeth (Fouts) Lombard.
Lump was a lifelong resident of Osawatomie and graduated from Osawatomie High School in the class of 1967. He was quite the athlete in high school and played football with Lynn Dickey while attending Osawatomie High. He was very proud to tell you he was the “tight end” for Lynn.
On November 8, 1980 he married Ruth Rienecker they made their home in Osawatomie, they were married for ten years.
Lump worked for the City of Osawatomie at the water treatment plant and retired after more than thirty years of service.
He was well known around town and would be seen driving in his blue Chevy pick-up, his truck was his baby. He was having it changed from a stick shift to an automatic so it would be easier for him to drive. It would have been ready for him the following Tuesday.
Lump had lots of friends and was an enthusiastic alumni member, he has never missed an alumni celebration. He loved to reminisce of the “old days “and going to alumni celebration to see old friends was one of his favorite things.
He was the only boy in his family and he loved to harass his sisters. But they didn’t mind and admit to spoiling their brother.
He was a recent collector of knives, loved all sports especially football and was a Kansas City Chiefs fan, as well as K-State and KU. He was fond of animals and St. Bernard dogs was one of his favorite, his dog “Cowboy” a Labrador just died last year. When his aging Aunt could no longer care for her cat, Lump took him willingly and gave him a loving home where he still resides.
Lump was a member of the Elk’s Lodge #921 and could be seen there often visiting with friends. If you would ask anyone who knew him they would tell you “He is just a nice guy” he will be missed by many.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
Lump is survived by his three sisters: Kim (Bob) Graham of Osawatomie, KS, Sherry (Darrell) Bellinger of Wichita, Kansas and Cindy Lombard Wernex of Overland Park, Kansas. Five nieces and nephews and eight great nieces and nephews along with a host of other family and friends.
