Ruth Elizabeth Buchanan, age 92, passed away Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at St. Luke’s Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri.
Ruth was born November 23, 1921 in Bronson, Kansas. She was one of four daughters to Ernest Henry and Edith Blanche (Robinson) Pool.
She grew up in Bronson and graduated from Bronson High School in the class of 1939.
After high school, Ruth went to cosmetology school in Topeka, Kansas. Upon receiving her cosmetology license, she went to work in a beauty shop in downtown Osawatomie where she worked for several years.
On January 5, 1947, she married Edgar Louis Buchanan in Fort Scott, KS. The couple made their home in Osawatomie where Ruth opened her own beauty shop in her home at 1208 Pacific. She worked as a hair stylist for about fifteen years. She and Edgar became the parents of two children Ronda and Kevin. Ruth then became a full time wife and mother. Later in life she went to work for USD 367 in the school kitchens for over ten years.
After thirty-six years of marriage, Ruth lost her husband Edgar on November 20, 1983.
Ruth was a fun and loving person. Anyone who knew her could recognize her by her distinct laugh. She loved to have company and enjoyed talking with everyone. She loved to garden and give away her garden fresh tomatoes. She was known for her wonderful chicken and noodles she made from scratch and how she always had peanut butter cups to hand out to all. But more than anything, she will be remembered for her love of family. Ruth loved her children and grandchildren more than life. She will be greatly missed by many family and friends.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband and her three sisters.
She is survived by her two children Ronda Jane (David) Waggoner of Olathe, Kansas, Kevin Buchanan of Osawatomie, Kansas, five grandchildren: Adam (Brenda) Waggoner, Shannon (Walter) Clark, Jamie (Kyle) Charlesworth, Christopher Waggoner, Jennifer Buchanan, one great granddaughter Cara and twin great grandsons on the way that Ruth lovingly called “Tom & Jerry”
