David Lee Spencer age 64, of Lane, Kansas died unexpectedly Monday, December 1, 2014.

Dave was born in Doniphan, Missouri, January 11, 1950 the second of three children. His parents are Carroll Lee and Evelyn (Sisk) Spencer. The family moved to Springhill, Kansas when Dave was six years old. He attended school there and graduated from Springhill High School in the class of 1968.

Dave was also known by the nick name “Tug” by family members and close friends.

On July 2, 1968 in Kansas City, Missouri Dave enlisted in the United States Navy. He was sent to San Diego, California for his basic training and then to Corpus Christi Naval Air Station, Corpus Christi, Texas. Dave served almost his entire enlistment in Corpus Christi. On June 28, 1972 he was honorably discharged of active duty from the United States Navy with the rank of Petty Officer 3rd Class. He then served in the Naval Reserves for another two years.

After the military Dave lived in Homewood, Kansas for about fifteen years. He went to work for the Delco Battery Plant in Olathe, Kansas, he worked in the production area of the plant. In 1989 he moved to his farm in Lane, Kansas and has resided there ever since. In 2002 health problems forced Dave to retire early from Delco Battery after thirty years with the company.

Dave was married twice during his life, no children came from either marriage and both ended in divorce.

He may not have had children but he did have a special baby in his life, his lab mix dog, Sasha. She was his constant companion. The love between him and this dog was one worthy of the term “Man’s best friend” for she surely was his best friend, and she will miss him every day.

Dave enjoyed many activities which included riding his Kawasaki Vulcan motorcycle, gardening, working his land and tending to his cows and horses. He loved Native American Indian artifacts and was an avid collector of Indian arrowheads. Dave was a nature lover and anything that was of the earth, natural and pure was his first choice in almost anything. He loved spending time with all of his family, parents, siblings, nephews and his buddy Mike.

Dave was preceded in death by his grandparents.

He is survived by his parents: Carroll and Evelyn Spencer of Rantoul, KS, two sisters: Kathryn (Ken) Needs of Bella Vista, AR, and Karen (Mike) Hill of Osawatomie, KS, and four nephews: Jeff and John Needs,Matt and Dustin McClendon, best buddy Mike Moore and of course his special baby Sasha.
