Edward Thomas “Ed” Fisher age 64 of Rantoul, Kansas died Friday December 19, 2014 at Olathe Medical Center in Olathe, Kansas.
Ed was an only child born to Arlois Edward and Juanita May (Southern) Fisher on July 9, 1950 in Kansas City, Kansas. He attended school at Central Heights and graduated with the class of 1968.
After high school Ed went to Independence Community College in Independence, Kansas for about a year and he played on the college football team. Ed decided he would not continue with college but rather return home and secure employment.
On December 21, 1969, Ed married Debra Richards at the Presbyterian Church in Rantoul, Kansas. They became the parents of three children Thomas Wesley, Amy Beth and April Rachelle. Ed and Debra were just two days shy of being married forty-five years.
Ed worked several different kinds of jobs all at the same time, he drove a truck for Ross Truck Line and also helped train horses, and he even helped his friend Johnny pick-up and deliver milk around Garnett. He later went to work for Signal Trucking Company delivering merchandise to Sears’ stores. He was going on eighteen years with Signal Trucking when they went out of business. He then went to work for Rail Terminal Service, as a driver that loaded cars on and off the trains. Ed retired in the early 2000’s after ten years with the company.
Ed enjoyed camping, boating and traveling, he loved bowling and was on a league for fourteen years. During the summer months he enjoyed playing softball with various teams, but his favorite thing was babysitting his grandkids. Ed joined a Masonic lodge before he retired, however the meetings were the same nights he had to work, so he was not as active as he would have liked to have been.
Ed was proceeded in death by his parents and grandson Joseph Thomas Lickteig.
He is survived by his wife Debra of the home, one son Thomas (Prudence) Fisher of Montara, CA, two daughters Amy (Lee) Roberts of Garnett, KS and April (Sean) Fisher-Lickteig of Rantoul, KS. Eleven grandchildren; Ryan, Sara, Lucas and Allison Lickteig, Mason and Axel Roberts, Eli Fisher, Heaven Fisher, Faith and Rilya Lickteig. Three great-grandchildren, Braxton Williams, Joon and Mila Lickteig and another great- grand baby on the way.
Graveside were 1:30pm Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at the Ruhamah Cemetery, Rantoul, Kansas. Memorials are to: Special Olympics - Midwest Wildfires Team. Condolences may be left at www.eddybirchard.com
