Donna Marie Bashor age 84 of Chanute, Kansas died Thursday December 25, 2014 at Beautiful Savior Nursing Home in Belton, Missouri.
Donna was born October 6, 1930 in Osawatomie, Kansas. She was the only child born to Donald and Naomi (Rothe) Piper. She grew up and went to school in Council Grove.
Donna married John Allison Bashor on December 8, 1949 in Fort Scott, Kansas. After they were married together they had two children Jim and Pam. After almost 53 years of marriage, John died on May 26, 2002.
Donna worked until the late 80’s or early 90’s as a secretary for an insurance company. She was a member of the Business of Professional Women (BPW) and served as the secretary. One year she was chosen as the Woman of the Year in the BPW.
After retiring, Donna volunteered at places like Chanute Hospital, the Methodist Church, Applewood nursing home and the Cherry Street after school program. She loved to travel with the Goodwill Tours group. She would collect rocks when she went on trips to the mountains. She loved nature not only when she traveled but even in her back yard, she loved to feed the birds and squirrels. In her spare time she would crochet or play solitaire. Donna made the best Christmas treats and would set them out for her family when they came over. She was so proud of her children and grandchildren. She always wanted to show off her three grandchildren to her friends and loved to spoil them.
Donna was proceeded in death by her parents and her husband John.
Survived by her children Jim (Sharon) Bashor and Pam (Phil) Mercado, three grandchildren Holly, Harmony and Nicholas and four great-grandchildren.
