Eleanor Elaine Manly age 82, of Osawatomie, Kansas died January 28, 2015 at her home.
Eleanor was born on March 11, 1932 in Osawatomie, Kansas the eldest child of three born to Orie Armstrong and Eva Margaret (Verdier) Haigh.
She attended school in the Osawatomie school system, and graduated from Osawatomie High School in the class of 1950. She then attended the Fort Scott Community College for one semester.
Eleanor married Ralza Marcus “Mark” Manly on February 11, 1950 at the First United Methodist Church Parsonage in Osawatomie. The couple moved to Mission, Kansas for about two years, then moved to Sedalia, Missouri, then to Hugoton, Kansas for about eighteen months. They were then transferred to Tuscola, Illinois with the J.F. Pritchard Company and the National Petro Company for about four years. Then upon returning to Osawatomie she and Mark proceeded to build their home on the Manly family farm North-West of Osawatomie. They became the parents of four children: Lois Elaine, Alan Lee, Charles Marcus and David Michael. Charles Marcus died at the age of ten in 1967.
Eleanor took the Civil Service Test for Clerk-Typist and started her forty year career at the Osawatomie State Hospital. She later was promoted to Secretary I to the Director of Personnel Services, retiring in September of 1995. In 1997 Eleanor went to work as a Administration Assistant at the Paola Authority in Paola, Kansas working there for five years. She then worked part-time as a receptionist for the First Option Bank of Osawatomie for about six months.
Eleanor was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church of Osawatomie and greatly enjoyed singing in the church choir. She belonged to Delta Epsilon, a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a Volunteer at the Osawatomie History Museum.
She loved being a Miami County Clogger for over fifteen years and loved her life on the farm and all the wonderful times spent at Grand Lake.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, one son Charles Marcus Manly.
She is survived by her husband Mark of the home, and three children: Lois Young of Wichita, KS, Alan (Paula) Manly of Bixby, OK and David Manly of Okmulgee, OK .Brother Robert Haigh of Lees Summit, MO and sister Marie Ann Wicke of Olathe, KS, five grandchildren: Jennifer, Sarah Brandon, Dustin and Courtney and five great-grandchildren: Leah, Addison, Noah, Teagan and AJ along with a host of other family and friends.
