Edgar Henry “Corky” Mann age 90, of Osawatomie, Kansas died Friday, February 6, 2015 at the Lifecare Center of Osawatomie.

Corky as he was known to almost everyone was born July 7, 1924 in a house at 12th and Pacific in Osawatomie. He was the seventh child of seven born to Fred Leon and Lottie Lavinia (Powell) Mann.
He attended school in the Osawatomie School system.
Corky married at the young age of seventeen. On November 28th, 1941 Corky married Lois Marie Thornton in Mound City, Kansas. They made their home in Osawatomie and became the parents of seven children. Lois died January 14, 2009 at the age of eighty-two. They had been married for over sixty-seven years.

Corky worked for Steam Line Distribution in Eudora, Kanas for a while, but on May 28, 1943, he enlisted in the United States Navy during WWII. He was stationed in Farragut, Idaho and served on the USS Kennebago in the South Pacific as a Seaman First Class. Corky received several commendations while in the Navy, which included six bronze stars, an initiation in to the Solemn Mysteries of the Ancient Order of the Deep for having crossed the equator bound for the South Pacific and personal written recognition from his commanding officer for outstanding service during dangerous encounters at sea. Corky received an honorable discharge from the United States Navy on January 11, 1946.

After returning home from the war Corky took on a two year apprenticeship with the carpenters union. However this job required he be away from his wife and young family. Corky left the union and went out on his own and did carpenter work locally in and around Miami County so he could stay close to his growing family. Corky helped build and rebuild a lot of homes and businesses in Miami County. After the flood of 1951 he helped rebuild numerous homes for the residents of Osawatomie. Corky was a man that truly knew what hard work meant, even after falling more than forty-five feet while working on the Presbyterian Church and spending three months in the hospital with multiple injuries, two weeks after being home he was up on the roof doing what he did best, once again.

Corky was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, one who loved his family and took care of them the only way he knew how, in being an honest, hardworking and upstanding citizen of the community by example. But also by being there for his family, no matter what the monetary loss might have been, being with his family was the most important priority. The two things that he loved most were making things out of wood and fishing.

Corky was preceded in death by his wife Lois, daughter LuAnn Mann in 1975, son Edgar H. Mann Jr. in 1991, two son-in laws : William Vensor and Michael Johnson, two grandsons: Aaron Warrick and Jason Mann, one great grandson Hudson R. Dunn and five of his siblings.

He is survived by his children: son Fred (Joyce) Mann of Osawatomie, KS, four daughters: Toni Vensor of Pueblo, CO, Dixie Johnson of Burlington, KS, Denise( Mark) Holloman of Greeley, KS and Melinda (Burk) Barnett of Paola, KS, one sister Virginia Calvert of Cedar Rapids, IA , nineteen grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren and a set of twins on the way. Along with numerous other family and friends that will all miss his outlook on life each and every day.
