James Richard “Jim” Manns age 65, of Lane, Kansas died Saturday, February 28, 2015 at his home.
Jim was born January 6, 1950 in Kansas City, Missouri, the third child of a large family of ten. His father was Charles J. Manns and his mother was Minnie A.(Canida) Ward.
Jim grew up in Merriam, Kansas and attended the Shawnee Mission School System.
He lived several years in the Wyandotte County, Kansas area and moved to Hillsdale, Kansas in 1979.
On August 8, 1987 in Paola, Kansas Jim married Sharleen "Tonie" (Ellenberger) Provence. With each having two children they now became a family of six. Richard, Charles, Joseph and Michelle.
Jim worked for the city of Prairie Village, Kansas for many years, then Wal-Mart Distribution in Ottawa, Kansas in the Maintenance Department for about twenty years, and PacSun Distribution, Maintenance Department for the last seven years. Jim also ran his own backhoe business for many years. He was a hard worker and liked to always stay busy.
Jim and Tonie moved to Lane, Kansas about fifteen years ago and soon became well known in the community. Jim was known by everyone in the small town and was loved by all. He never knew a stranger and would help anyone and everyone. He was a big hearted man that loved kids, horses, and dogs. He was always out working the land, raising his horses and tending his cattle, he even raised hunting dogs and pigeons to train the dogs with, and of course he and Tonie’s little mixed breed dog “Honey” had a special place in his heart.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, and three siblings: David Manns, Terry Ward and Becky Ward.
He is survived by his wife Tonie of the home, children: Richard Manns (Dee) of Hillsdale, KS, Charles (Christine) Manns of New Hampshire, Michelle (Keith) McKinney of Hillsdale, KS, and Joseph (Charley) Provence of Mound City, KS, three brothers: Fred (Dorothy) Manns of Independence, MO, Joe(Connie) Manns of Pittsburg, KS, and Mike Ward of Paola, KS, three sisters: Charlene (Bob) Bennett of Garnett, KS, Cindy (Dale) Chadwick of Adrian, MO, and Patty Ward of Climax Springs, MO.
