Robert Bennett “Bob” Owens age 81, of Osawatomie, Kansas formerly of Rantoul, Kansas died Sunday, July 12, 2015 at the Life Care Center of Osawatomie.

Bob was born October 11, 1933 in Leavenworth, Kansas the youngest of four children born to Robert Franklin and Lelia Marie (Pogue) Owens.

He grew up in Leavenworth and attended school in the Leavenworth school system graduating from Leavenworth High School.

Bob married Anita Hadley in Leavenworth, and became the parents of two children, however the marriage ended in divorce a few years later.

Bob had a love of horses and trained them for most of his life. He worked as a horse trainer in Colorado Springs, Colorado then continued to train horses after he moved back to Kanas. He was well known for his ability to train for several surrounding states. He was an electrician by trade but continued to train horses along with working his day job.

In 1978 he married Christine Hines in Osawatomie, the couple made their home in rural Osawatomie and became the parents of four children. Bob worked for Hines Electric, a family business until 1995 when he retired, he and Christine divorced later that year after seventeen years of marriage.

Bob had a passion for horses, but motorcycles came in a close second. He owned and rode many different ones throughout his life, an activity that continued on in his later years riding well into his seventies.

He was a man who loved to joke and have fun, it has been said he never had a serious moment. He was a good father, and a wonderful grandfather, his grandchildren were truly his pride and joy.
Bob like most people had a lot of friends throughout his life, but you always have one special friend and Bob’s was his dear friend Dave Schlesener. They met in 1970 and remained best friends for forty-five years.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers.

He is survived by his children: Robin Davia of Crozier, VA, Robert Brad Owens of Leavenworth, KS Josh Owens of Paola, KS, Joel Owens of Leavenworth, KS, Rachel Owens of Birmingham, MO, and Hannah Mendoza of Kansas City, MO, one sister Joy Defrees of Leavenworth, KS, thirteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, along with numerous other family and friends.
