Lewis Sylvester Donelson age 77 of Linn Valley Kansas formerly of Louisburg, Kansas died Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at Nottingham Health and Rehab in Olathe.
Lewis was born August 23, 1937 in Kansas City, Missouri. He was the third of five children born to Lloyd Eldon and Dorothy Sarah (Blaire) Donelson. He grew up in Kansas City, area on both sides of the state line and attended school in the greater Kansas City school systems.
Lewis married Sandy DeWalt they made their home in Kansas City and became the parents of two children, Edward and Deborah. The marriage ended in divorce.
Lewis met Rita Marie Collins and in 1957 they married in Kansas City. The couple became the parents of four children: Lewis E., Esther, Howard and Sarah. They lived in Louisburg KS, and were married for thirty-one years. Rita died in 1988.
In 1990, Lewis met Patricia Anne Shulista of Paola, KS. They made their home in Linn Valley, KS. Lewis and Anne did not have children together, however they did share guardianship of Michael Buttram who resides at Lakemary Center in Paola, Kansas. Anne died in September of 2014.
Lewis was a truck driver by trade and was employed by Miami County Road and Bridge for many years where he later retired. He was an avid hunter and loved to go deer hunting as well as a collector of guns. He was a fisherman and enjoyed dropping a line in the water anytime. Lewis had a love of old coins and watches and had a small collection of both. He was a wonderful husband and would do anything for his late wife Anne, a loving father and grandfather, his grandchildren were his pride and joy. He loved to watch old westerns on television, John Wayne was a favorite, enjoyed listening to country and western music and one of his favorite sayings was, “old men rule”.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Rita, Anne Shulista and one brother Edward Comstock.
Survivors include his children: Edward (Lori) Donelson of Warsaw, MO, Deborah (Brian) Barker of Block, KS, Lewis (Margo) Donelson of Linn Valley, KS, Esther (Kevin) Hall of Olathe, KS, Howard Donelson of LaCygne, KS, and Sarah (Charlie) Adams of Louisburg, KS and foster son Michael Buttram of Lakemary Center, Paola, KS. One brother John Comstock of Belton, MO, two sisters: Gwin (Larry) Stoneking of Gerster, MO and Sylvia Brown of Merriam, KS. Ten grandchildren: Dawn (Gilbert), Kim (David), Justin, Brandon, Tiffany, Luke, Matt (Cherish), Samantha, Tammy and Mary. Eleven great grandchildren Drew (April), David, Sandra, Roman, Erika, Haley, Hanna, Bradley, Marisa, Tommy and Maddison and two great, great grandchildren Brody and Venessa along with numerous nieces and nephews.
