Lucas Anton Prihoda Jr. age 81, of the Good Samaritan Center, Olathe, Ks formerly of Osawatomie and Paola died Sunday, August 23, 2015 at the Olathe Medical Center Hospice House.
Lucas was born April 10, 1934 in Pierce, Texas the fourth of five children born to Lucas Anton and Apolena Geraldine (Mader) Prihoda Sr. He grew up in Pierce, Texas and attended school there. At a young age he left school to help his father on the family farm. Lucas continued to work on the farm until he was about twenty-one.
On November 5, 1955 Lucas married Albina Justina Faktor in Wharton, Texas. He was drafted into the United States Army. He did his basic training at Fort Carson, CO, then later was stationed at Fort. Leonard Wood, MO as a driver, when family needed him to return home to help on the family farm. Lucas was honorably discharged on August 20, 1957 and returned to Texas and his family. Lucas then began working in the oil fields in the area for several years, while working in the oil business he was given the nick name “PeeWee” because of his small stature. The nickname stayed with him throughout his life, many nieces and nephews to this day call him “Uncle PeeWee”. He and Albina made their home in El Campo, Texas area and became the parents of five children: Leroy, Donna, David, Leonard and Linda.
Lucas was a wonderful father, fun to be around and always playing with his children. Life in the Prihoda home was filled with pillow fights, games, swimming and fishing along the Colorado River and hours of intrigue when Lucas would tell the children stories. Lucas was an amazing story-teller and everyone gave him their full attention when listening to his wondrous tales.
In 1967 the family moved to Kansas and lived in Louisburg, KS for about eighteen months. Then moved to the Stanley/ Stillwell area for several years. Lucas worked as a farm hand on a various farms in the area working in the fields, with cattle, hogs and doing other necessary farm duties. As the family grew up and children left home he and his wife moved to Osawatomie in the mid 1980’s and then to Paola until the late 1990’s, then kept moving to live near their children where ever they decided to live because their children wanted them near. Lucas lost the love of his life when his wife Albina died in 2012, they had been married for fifty-seven years. Lucas moved to the Good Samaritan Center in Olathe in 2014.
Lucas was a kind and loving man, who liked to fish, play domino’s making trips to Texas to visit close relatives and be with his family. He loved little children and enjoyed going on car rides and listening to “Honky Tonk” music. One of his favorite things to do was to tease, even with the nurses he would tell them he was a member of the” old men’s club”. He was a good man, and many family members and friends will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his wife Albina, one brother and three sisters.
Lucas is survived by his children: Leroy Prihoda of Paola, KS, Donna (Ricky) Compton of Spring Hill, KS, David Prihoda of Tonganoxie, KS, Leonard (Christine) Prihoda of Stotts City, MO and Linda (David) Nolen of DeSoto, KS Eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
