Anthony Glenn “Tony” Godfrey age 55, of Osawatomie, Kansas passed away Sunday, October 25, 2015 at the Medicalodges of Gardner, Kansas.
Tony was born December 15, 1959 in Springfield Greene, Missouri the eldest child of four to Donald Gene and Donna Faye (Rakow) Godfrey.
Tony, lovingly called “Bones” by his siblings grew up in the Kansas City area and attended high school at Shawnee Mission North. In December of 1981 Tony enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed in Colorado and Alaska, where he served as an electrician. After his tour with the Army Tony returned to Kansas and later moved to Parker, Kansas where his father and other family members resided.
On March 20, 1993 Tony married Teresa Pauline (Daulton) Harper in Osawatomie. The couple along with Teresa’s four children made their home in Osawatomie. Tony took to the role of “Dad” naturally and the four teenagers in the house (now adults) will still tell you his favorite words were “You’re grounded” and “Go to your room”, but that sounds pretty natural, don’t you think. The family of six soon became a family of seven with the arrival of Tony and Teresa’s only child Joshua. Everyone in the home was excited about the new arrival and becoming a father was one of the greatest moments for Tony and his son was the light of his life.
Tony worked for several different places in the Miami County area including McClean Auto Body, Triangle Construction and Medicalodges of Paola, Kansas. He was working for the Electric Shop in Paola when on Father’s Day of 2001 he suffered a massive heart attack, it took many attempts by doctors to save his life, and many days in intensive care but Tony was a strong willed man and not ready to give up. Though it left him permanently disabled and required him to live in a healthcare facility, he still was able to be a part of his family and Joshua’s growth into a man, could still hold his son’s first child along with all the other grandchildren and enjoy many happy family events for the last fourteen years.
Before his illness Tony enjoyed fishing and hunting, like to work on cars and loved to ride his motorcycle. He was a hard worker and stubborn as they come, but one who had a wonderful sense of humor and a smile to match. And when it came to family he loved to tease and play with all the kids, he even coached his sons Little League ball team one year. Tony was well liked by everyone who knew him and always ready to lend a hand if you needed it. But most of all he was a loving husband, father and grandfather, a man who will be missed greatly by many and remembered by all.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother Ruby Mae (Arnn) Godfrey and one nephew.
He is survived by his wife Teresa, son Joshua Godfrey (Lindsay Caudill), four step-children: Kenny (Audra) Harper, Stacy (Mark) Hazlett, Jennifer Harper (Chris West) and Jimmy Harper all of Osawatomie. Two brothers: Joe Godfrey of Parker, KS and Bruce Godfrey of Lane, KS and one sister Paula McGuire of Parker, KS, two step-brothers: Dwight McNeill of Paola and Richard McNeill of Missouri, two step-sisters: Cassandra Reynolds of Hillsdale, KS and Valorie Smith of Bartelsville, OK. And twelve grandchildren: Attilynne, Austin, Brayden, Shelby, Cody, Landon, Gavin, Jalynn, Haley, Rylee, Maddison and Makayla, along with many other family and friends.
