Wanda Madge Keitel, age 92, passed away Saturday, November 21, 2015 early in the morning.

Born October 21, 1923 to Virgil O. and Florence England in Fontana, KS, Madge was a country girl who grew up to become a country woman, with a deep love and appreciation for the outdoors, which was shared by her husband Herman Keitel.

Madge and Herman, long-time neighbors and school sweethearts, were married May 17 shortly after Madge’s graduation from Parker High School in 1942. Soon after marriage, Herman shipped out to join the war effort in Europe, and Madge went to work for Pratt & Whitney doing her part for the war effort from home.

After World War II, Madge and Herman moved to her father’s farm south of Beagle, KS. There they started a family before moving in 1961 to a 120 acre farm in rural Fontana, KS.

Madge returned to the workforce and spent 23 years working in dietary at the Osawatomie State Hospital before retiring in 1984.
Three years later, Herman retired from dairy farming and the two spent many wonderful years traveling and pursuing their favorite outdoor activities, which included camping and fishing in Minnesota, Oklahoma, Texas and Alaska.

Madge was preceded in death by her brother Virgil Lavern and her husband Herman.

She is survived by her sons, Tom/Connie, Gary/Rebecca and David/Julie as well as her grandchildren, Melissa/Jon, Kindra, Garrett, Charity, Joshua, Jacob and Emilie and her great grandchildren, Ethan and Ella.
