Marjorie Alice “Marge” Luther age 91, of San Antonio, Texas, formerly of Greeley, Kansas passed Sunday, December 27, 2015 at Brookdale Assisted Living in Hollywood Park.
Marge was born the fourth child of five on July 5, 1924 in Mooers Forks, New York to Ralph Robert George and Lucy Myrtle (Campbell) Hamilton. She grew up in Mooers Forks and graduated from Mooers High School in the class of 1942. She graduated from Adirondack Commercial School on Friday, June 11, 1943. The next Monday she left for Syracuse, NY to work for GE.
While working at General Electric she met James (Jim) William Luther also working for GE; and, on November 12, 1949 in Mooers Forks, New York they were united in marriage. They made their home in Syracuse for five years and became parents of two children: James and Barbara. In 1954 General Electric transferred Jim to Cincinnati, Ohio where they welcomed their third child, Sara. In 1966 Jim was transferred once again; and, the family moved to Winfield, Kansas and lived there until 1974 when they again moved with GE to Lebanon, Ohio, just north of Cincinnati, OH. Finally, in 1985, Jim having retired from GE, moved back to his family farm in Greeley, Kansas where they remained until Jim passed in October of 2007. They had been married for fifty-eight years. Marge remained on the family farm until 2011 when at the age of 87, she moved to Texas to be close to her daughter Barbara.
Marge was a homemaker for most of her life, caring for her three children and her husband. She was an active member of the Lane United Methodist Church in Lane, Kansas from 1985. She enjoyed attending church and dearly loved their church social activities. Marge was also an active member of the EHU (Extension Homemakers Unit) where she had many close friends.
She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, cooking and socializing. However, her family was the true focus of her life. She was a wonderful, wife, mother and grandmother. She was a loving caring woman who would do anything for her family and friends; and, will be missed by all who knew her.
Marge was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, her parents Ralph and Lucy Hamilton and four siblings: Robert Hamilton, Geraldine Gates, Florence Wilson, and Joyce Costello.
She is survived by her children: James Luther of Lexington, KY, Barbara (Henry) Burgell of San Antonio, TX and Sara (Tony) Stephanus of Lexington, IN.
