Laura Mae Baker age 77 of Osawatomie, Kansas died Sunday March 20, 2016 at Olathe Medical Center Olathe, Kansas.

Laura was born on May 4, 1938 in Bronson, Kansas. She was the fifth of six children born to Bert Bryan and Eva Belle (Brown) Flynn. She attended school in Moran and graduated from Moran High School with the class of 1956.

After high school, Laura married Scott Eugene Baker in June of 1956. Scott and Laura moved to Turley and then to Skiatook Oklahoma. Scott graduated from barber school in Tulsa, Oklahoma and started his own business in Skiatook. While living in Oklahoma, Laura and Scott became the parents of four children, Vickie who died at the age of four months, Debra, Bryan and Joni. The family made their home in a small and loving community. To this day they have lifelong friend in Oklahoma.

There were a lot of fun summers at the lake. The family moved in December of 1969 to Leawood Kansas. Scott began learning the HVAC trade and eventually moved the family to Osawatomie in 1971. He started his own business “Baker Heating & Air”. Laura was a stay at home mother until all the children were gone from home.  Then she started working for a company that manufactured parts for airplanes called a Hi-Sonic in Olathe, Kansas.  She was employed at Hi-Sonic for approximately 23 years.

Laura’s grandchildren and great grandchildren were the highlight of her days.  She always had a way with babies and small children.  She enjoyed maybe a little too many garage sales.  For many years she sold her “finds” in various flea markets.  There is nothing she liked better than a good find.  She also like to watch movies, trips to Las Vegas and then the boats in Kansas City.  She liked to take trips to Oklahoma with family and Christmas celebrations with her entire family.  She planted and took care of her flowers around her home. Her biggest collection was clothes, clothes and more clothes.  She was a good wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother to the end. We all care deeply and God bless.

Laura is preceded in death by her parents, Daughters, Vickie in 1956 and Joni in 1978, three brothers Boward Flynn, Dale Flynn and Bert Flynn and one sister Ellen Paschal.

She is survived by her husband of almost 60 years, Scott of the home, Two children; Debra (Bruce) Brady of Osawatomie, KS and Bryan (Brenda) Baker of Durant, OK, five grandchildren; Jared Ford of Fontana, KS, Andrew (Joyce) Baker of Parker, KS, Stephanie Ford- Reed of Paola, KS, Matthew (Liz) Baker of Parker, KS and Taylor (Jacob) Burleson of Bourne, TX. Nine great grandchildren; Xavier, Aden, Kinley, Madison, Alexis, Logan, Quinn, Brenna and Eli. One sister Judy (Bobbie) Baker of Iola, KS. Along with other family and friends.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make a donation to the Olathe Hospice in Laura’s name.
