Floye Jean Hicks Stratton age 81 of Osawatomie, Kansas died Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at the Life Care Center of Osawatomie.

Jean was born July 31, 1934 in Yellville, Arkansas one of several children born to Charlie and Bessie (White) Waggoner.

She grew up in the Yellville area and attended school there. At a young age Jean married Benjamin H. Farmer and they became the parents of nine children. The family moved from Arkansas to Kansas and made their home in Olathe where they remained until the death of Benjamin in 1972, Jean moved to Osawatomie in 1978, later marring Raymond J. Hicks they were married for 26 years until his death in 2002.

On September the 1, 2005 she married Donald Wayne Stratton in Russellville, Arkansas and they too made their home in Osawatomie. The couple were inseparable when you saw one you could rest assured the other was not far away they did everything together.

Jean was employed at many different jobs throughout her life including Hyer Boot Company in Olathe, waitressing and various other jobs in the Johnson and Miami County areas.

She was one of the most meticulous people you would ever meet, her home was always very neat and well organized even down to every drawer and cabinet in her house.

Jean was a woman of great faith, and a member of the Faith Baptist Church of Osawatomie. She and Don never missed attending a Sunday morning church service, and loved to share in all the church activities whenever possible.

She seemed to always have some little saying with a piece of wisdom attached to it, one of her favorites was; “The old wise owl who sat on an Oak, the more he heard the less he spoke ,the less he spoke the more he heard…… why can’t you be like that old bird? “

Jean was preceded in death by her, parents, two husbands, and four sons: Hulon Gene, Jerry Lee, Larry Wayne and Randy J. Farmer, daughter Shirley Diane Beardsley and great grandson Jacob Dale Dix.
