Jean Marie Roy age 73 of Parker, KS died Friday August 5, 2016 at Olathe Medical Center, Olathe, KS

Jean was born November 26, 1942 in Parsons, Kansas. She was the second of five children born to Zephry Alfred & Lometa Maxine (Ogden) Cannon. Jean grew up in Parsons where she attended school.

After high school, Jean went to school and became a cosmetologist. She married Dale Erway and they made their home in Garfield, Kansas. Jean owned her own hair salon there until they moved to Osawatomie in 1970. Together Jean and Dale had one daughter Sallie. The marriage later ended.

Jean started at the Osawatomie State Hospital in 1976 as a psych aid. Then she became a license mental health tech. She decided that she liked working at the hospital so she decided to go to school to be a registered nurse. She completed her degree in the early 90’s.

On December 13, 1994, Jean married Carl L. Roy in Osawatomie, Kansas. They made their home in Parker, Kansas. Then in 2006, after 31 years of working, Jean retired from the Osawatomie State Hospital.

Jean was an avid reader. Over the years she accumulated many books. She loved her dogs, Foxy, Sam & Buster Brown. When she was younger she was on a bowling league. She was great seamstress and made lots of things for family and friends. Jean was an animal lover. She donated to the ASPCA, Prairie Paws and Olive’s Hope. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Parker, KS.

Jean is preceded in death by her parents and one brother Billy Lee Cannon.

Survivors include Carl Roy of the home, Daughter Sallie Erway of Osawatomie, KS. Step Children, Chad Roy of Paola, KS and Shandra (Casey) Ryan of Prosper, TX. Grandchildren; Abigal (Jake) Munoz, Shanna (Jared Fiscus) Funk, Kali Funk, Jace, Ali and Macie Roy, Will, Hank, Audrey, Mary and Anna Ryan. Great Grand Children Leo Munoz & Easton Fiscus. Sisters: Saundra Grover of Liberal, KS, Loretta (Larry) Kehl of Parker, KS and Melinda (Steve) Putnam of Osawatomie, KS. Along with numerous Nieces & Nephews, Great Nieces & Nephews and Great Great Nieces & Nephews.
