Sharleen Mae “Tonie” Manns age 62, of Lane, Kansas died Thursday, August 11, 2016 at her home.
Tonie was born November 19, 1953 in Olathe, Kansas, the youngest child of six. Her parents were Thaine Lorenzo “Sam” and Alice Louise (Brown) Ellenberger.
Tonie graduated high school in Spring Hill, Kansas. After high school, she married Harold Provence and they made their home in Arkansas on a hunting reservation. Together they had two children, Michelle and Joseph. Tonie was a stay at home mom.
On December 28, 1979, Harold was in a car accident and passed away. Tonie and the kids moved back to Kansas to be closer to family. On August 8, 1987 in Paola, Kansas Tonie married James Richard “Jim” Manns.
Tonie was a bartender for 32 years. She worked at places like Maguire’s and the Amvets in Olathe. Then she moved south and she managed the Brown Jug in Garnett and bartended at Hillsdale Tavern and Lane Tavern.
Tonie and Jim moved to Lane, Kansas about sixteen years ago and soon became well known in the community. She was known by everyone in the small town as Miss Tonie and was loved by all. She loved going to Sugar Valley Lake, spending time with her grandkids and gardening. She especially loved roses. Tonie loved a good party and you could always find her dancing. She had a great sense of humor and was always laughing.
Tonie was preceded in death by her two husbands Harold Provence and James Manns, her parents, and two siblings: Mike Ellenberger and Sandy Weers.
She is survived by her children: Richard Manns (Dee) of Hillsdale, KS, Michelle (Keith) McKinney of Hillsdale, KS, and Joseph Provence of Lane, KS, and daughter in law Charley of Garnett, KS. two brothers: Jimmy (Terumi) Ellenberger of Olathe, KS, and Jody (Kaye) Ellenberger of Paola, KS, One sister: Connie (Ed) Burke of Kansas City, KS, Four grandchildren: Alyshia (Jasper) Needham, Dylan McKinney, Aiden Provence and Trenton Provence, five great grandchildren and one on the way.
Tonie will be missed by many family members, numerous close friends and the town of Lane.
