Richard Allen “Rick” Stadter Sr. age 72 of Osawatomie, Kansas died Friday, September 9, 2016 at Olathe Medical Center.

Rick was born July 2, 1944 in Hoisington, Kansas. He is the third of four children born to Cecil Oscar and Margery Viola (Holmes) Stadter. His father worked for the railroad so they moved frequently. He attended school in Hoisington, KS, Monroe, LA and graduated from Wichita Heights in Wichita, KS in 1962.

After high school, Rick went to work. He worked for construction companies and then for the railroad. He married Charlotte Brewer in Paola, KS on October 29, 1966. Together they had three children, Tamara, Richard Jr. and Alicia. The marriage later ended in divorce.

He attended Pittsburg State University and graduated with a bachelors in Marketing in 1969. He was in the Navy Reserves while at PSU. After graduation, Rick decided to go to active duty. He became a 2 nd class petty officer in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War.

Rick moved his family to the Osawatomie and Paola area after being discharged from the Navy. He then started working on his Master’s Degree at the University of Kansas. Around 1974, Rick started working for the Union Pacific Railroad.  He worked as a brakeman for several years before becoming a conductor. In March of 1984, Rick married Vicki Keast in Osawatomie.  The marriage lasted for 12 years before ending in divorce. In 2004, he retired after working 30 years for the Union Pacific Railroad.

His hobbies include woodworking, cars and quail hunting. Rick had a love for animals.  He had one dog and five cats.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his children, Tamara Stadter of Monett, MO, Rich (Jennifer) Stadter Jr. of Paola, KS and Alicia (Jason) Barbour of Gardner, KS.  Siblings: George Stadter of Monroe, LA, Doug Stadter of Little Rock, AK and Evelyn Miller of Monroe, LA. One grandson Garrett Stadter. Along with other family and friends.
