James Robert “Jim” Pemberton Jr age 76 of Osawatomie, KS died Wednesday September 28, 2016 at Olathe Hospice House Olathe, KS.

Jim was born August 30, 1940 in Kansas City, Kansas. He was the eldest of five children. He grew up in the Kansas City area and attended different schools. Jim starting working instead of finishing high school. He started by building chain link fence for an individual and then for a company doing the same thing.

On October 3, 1958, Jim married Pearl Thorp in Kansas City, Missouri. They made their home in Kansas City. Together they had two children, Rob and Susie. In 1971, Jim and Pearl moved their family to Osawatomie. Jim then went to work for Art Bunker Volkswagen in Kansas City, as a parts manager. After quite a few years, he went to Lawrence and was the parts manager for Hopkins Volkswagen.

In 1983 Jim worked for Weir’s Auto Parts and then in 1985, he started his career as a Janitor/maintenance department for the Osawatomie School district. He worked in the evening for the school when he first started and during the day he would watch his granddaughter. After 15 years, Jim decided to retire.

He and Pearl loved to travel. They traveled to 46 of the 50 states, only missing Georgia, Hawaii, Alaska and South Carolina.  Jim was very family oriented. He attended almost all of his grandkids sporting and school events. His hobbies were working on small engines and just piddling in the shop. He always took pride in being the one that kept their yard mowed. In the recent years though, he taught Pearl to mow with the tractor and when she would need something fixed he would fix it. Jim took pictures at all of the family get-togethers and events. He was the best dad, grandpa and great-grandpa.

He was preceded in death by his parents and Brother Perry Tucker.
