Scott Eugene Baker age 83 of Osawatomie, KS died Monday December 5, 2016 at Olathe Medical Center, Olathe, KS.

Scott was born September 15, 1933 in Moran, KS. He was the younger of two children born to Charles Scott and Ruby Mae (Morrison) Baker. He attended school in Moran and graduated from Moran High School with the class of 1951. He grew up on a farm and loved to tend to the livestock.

After high school, he served in the United States Army. Scott married Laura Mae Flynn in June of 1956. The couple moved to Turley and then to Skiatook, Oklahoma. Scott graduated from barber school in Tulsa, Oklahoma and started his own business in Skiatook. While living in Oklahoma, Scott and Laura became the parents of four children, Vickie who died at the age of four months, Debra, Bryan and Joni. The family made their home in a small and loving community.  To this day they have lifelong friends in Oklahoma.

The family moved in December of 1969 to Leawood, Kansas. Scott began learning the HVAC trade and eventually moved the family to Osawatomie in 1971.  He started his own business “Baker Heating & Air”.  He retired from the HVAC business after 25 years.

Scott loved to fish and was an avid gardener. He would grow just about everything in his gardens but two things that were always planted were strawberries and tomatoes.  Scott and Laura would always go to the local coffee shops and visit with their friends. They would take their children on gambling trips to Las Vegas. Scott was famous for his fudge recipe and making yummy deserts.

Scott is preceded in death by his parents, wife Laura, daughters, Vickie in 1956 and Joni in 1978, and sister Francis Poling.

He is survived by two children; Debra Brady of Osawatomie, KS, and Bryan (Brenda) Baker of Durant, OK, five grandchildren; Jared Ford of Fontana, KS, Andrew (Joyce) Baker of Parker, KS, Stephanie Ford-Reed of Paola, KS, Matthew (Liz) Baker of Arlington, TN and Taylor (Jacob) Burleson of Bourne, TX. Nine great grandchildren; Xavier, Aden, Kinley, Maddison, Alexis, Logan, Quinn, Brynna and Eli. Along with other family and friends.
