David Allen Stewart age 76 of Osawatomie, KS died Friday December 30, 2016 at Olathe Medical Center of Olathe, KS.

David was born May 4, 1940 in El Dorado, Kansas. He is the fourth of six children born to Charles Franklin and Donna Marie (Carrier) Stewart. He had a twin brother Richard. He grew up and went to school in El Dorado. After school, David worked odd and end jobs.

Then on July 8, 1966 in Garnett, Kansas, David and Mary Ann Akers were married. They later became the parents of two sons, David and Michael. The family made their home in Osawatomie. David worked for the City of Osawatomie in the Water department. He then started working for Francis Colbert as a heavy equipment operator. He continued to work for the same company but it changed owners and it became Denford Construction Company.

In 1985, David bought the construction company and changed the name to Stewart Construction. He was very particular about his work. When he finished with a job he would put back the ground better than when he started. In 2000, David decided to retire, but would still run his equipment when something needed done.

David was an avid fisherman. He started fishing for catfish and was even on the Harold Hensley show. Then switched to bass and crappie. His favorite fishing hole was at Mound City Lake. There was a tree stump called “Stewart Stump” where he caught all of his big catches. He was very involved with this grandchildren. He went to all of their school activities and sporting events. He would travel all over to watch them play volleyball and wrestle. David was a Knight of the 3 rd Degree in the Knights of Columbus. Also a member of the St. Philip Neri Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survived by his wife of 50 years Mary Ann of the home, sons David (Jamie) Stewart of Paola, KS and Michael (Jolene) Stewart of Osawatomie, KS. Four Grandchildren Jimmy, Devon, Dylan (Harleigh) and Jorja and one great granddaughter Bentley. Four Brothers Richard Stewart of Independence, KS, Don Stewart of San Angelo, TX, Charles “Buddy” Stewart of El Dorado, KS and Steve Stewart of El Dorado, KS and one sister Harriett Skinner of El Dorado, KS. Along with other family and friends.
