Justina (Tina) Kay Pinkerton of Osawatomie, KS, age 46, died January 1, 2017 in her home.

Tina was born December 21, 1970 in Big Spring, Texas. She was the first child of William Charles Stroman and Jere Lee Carlton. Tina graduated from Paola High School, Class of 1989.

After high school Tina started Pre-Med at the University of Kansas. She later decided a career in nursing would be a better fit for the family she was starting and transferred to Neosho County Community College where she graduated with her Associate’s Degree in Nursing.

On December 1, 1990, Tina married Brian L. Swearingen in Block, Kansas. Together they had three children; Shelbi, Alysa and Joseph. They were divorced in 1997. She then married Erick S. Pinkerton on October 13, 1999 and had her fourth child, Natalee. The two divorced in 2002.

During her nursing career, Tina worked at numerous locations. After college she worked at Louisburg Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Louisburg, Kansas. She spent ten years working at Ransom Memorial Hospital in Ottawa, Kansas. Tina then worked for a short time at St. Luke’s South before obtaining a position closer to home at North Point Skilled Nursing in Paola.

When the kids were younger, Tina was extremely active in all their extracurricular activities. She attended countless soccer games, softball games, karate lessons and dance classes. She was always first to sign up for school field trips, holiday class parties and to be a stage mom. As they got older the activities changed but spending time with her kids was always her priority. Tina loved to go camping and attend concerts anytime she had the chance.

Tina is preceded in death by her first husband Brian Lee Swearingen and her granddaughter Zadi Parker Swearingen.

She is survived by her children, Shelbi M. Swearingen of Osawatomie, KS, Alysa N. Hilliard of Fayetteville, NC, Joseph K. Swearingen of Hillsdale, KS and Natalee G. Pinkerton of Osawatomie, KS. Parents William C. Stroman of Minneapolis, MN and Jere L. Carlton of Osawatomie, KS and sister Kimberly J. Padgett of Kansas City, MO. along with many other friends and family.
